Tepicis the capital and largest city of theMexicanstateofNayarit. It is a colorful and pleasant city with presence of the state's indigenous cultures, the Cora and Huicholes. Nearby are the extinct Sangangüey volcano and its crater lake. Founded in 1531 asVilla del Espíritu Santo de la Mayor España,Tepic is also the primary urban center of this rich agricultural region; major crops include sugarcane, tobacco and citrus fruits.
